Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will hold a phone call soon, with discussions expected to focus on the situation around Ukraine and the broader Russia–US bilateral agenda, including economic matters.
Ryabkov emphasized that Russia’s primary task at this stage is to make clear to Washington that the recent Putin–Trump summit in Alaska has established the framework within which both sides must now operate. “There is no alternative path,” he said, underscoring that Moscow views the summit as the basis for continued diplomatic engagement.
He further noted that Russia’s contacts with the United States across various channels are ongoing, reflecting Moscow’s intent to maintain dialogue despite persistent differences. The upcoming Lavrov–Rubio call, Ryabkov added, will aim to build on the momentum created by the Alaska summit and explore ways to advance discussions on Ukraine and other pressing issues in bilateral relations.
