China condemns US’ ‘blatant use of force’ against Venezuela

China on Monday condemned what it described as the United States’ blatant use of force against Venezuela, warning that the actions undermine international law and regional stability.

“China condemns the U.S.’s blatant use of force against Venezuela, which seriously violates international law and basic norms in international relations, infringes upon Venezuela’s sovereignty, and threatens peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean region,” a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement.

The spokesperson added that such actions risk escalating tensions and destabilising the wider region, reiterating China’s opposition to the use of force in international affairs.

The Chinese foreign ministry said Washington’s actions have set a dangerous precedent and run counter to the principles of sovereignty and non-interference enshrined in the UN Charter. It added that disputes involving Venezuela should be resolved through dialogue and political means, and not coercion or military pressure.

Beijing further called on the United States to respect the legitimate rights of Latin American and Caribbean countries and to refrain from actions that could further destabilise the region. China reiterated that peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere are in the shared interest of the international community and urged all parties to exercise restraint.
